Average tones of home: 252 frames (2021 - 2022)

18” x 24”, inkjet print on rag paper

In August 2021 I used 7 rolls of colour film to document a return visit home after a year away. The negatives tangibly mark the passage of time, and my own reintroduction to the landscape and people I grew up with. Average Tones of Home was made by layering the 252 negatives from beginning of the visit to the end. When evenly blended, the negatives produce an average image of home that is abstracted; the frame becomes a colour story.
